Considerations After Implant Surgery

1- Do not rinse your mouth with water or spit out saliva for the first 24 hours after surgery.

2- Avoid brushing your teeth for 1 day after the implant.

3- Avoid rinsing your mouth for 8 hours after the implant.

4- Avoid smoking, drinking tea and coffee for 3 days after the implant.

5- Avoid drinking liquids with a straw. (At least two weeks)

6- Avoid drinking hot liquids and foods.

7- Using drugs and alcohol will make the implant not completely successful.

8- Swelling and bruising after surgery are normal and usually increase for three days after surgery and then gradually decrease.

9- If you have had bone graft surgery inside the maxillary sinus, you should avoid blowing your nose for 2 weeks. During sinus surgery, a few drops of blood may come out of your nose when you bend over, which is not a cause for concern.

10- Drinking water is possible after the implant is done, but eating should be done after the anesthesia wears off.

11- Apply a cold compress to the surgical area for at least 12 hours after the operation. The method of using a cold compress is to apply it intermittently every 15 minutes (i.e. apply a compress for fifteen minutes and rest for fifteen minutes). Cold compresses help reduce swelling and bleeding after the operation.

12- If necessary, you can apply a warm compress using a warm towel every half hour, if necessary.

13- Brushing your teeth in areas that have not undergone surgery is okay.

14- Take your prescribed medications at the scheduled time.
